Kds 60a2000 Dead Screen Continuous Blink

Hi,

Thank you for posting to our Microsoft Community. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

We have been seeing black/flickering screen issues of several types after upgrading to Windows 10. The main causes observed so far are driver issues, output to unexpected port, and possibly also issues with the Lock Screen app. Please use these steps:

  • If you see the black/flickering screen only after sign-in and you can see a mouse cursor:
    • While at the black screen, try using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager.
    • If it becomes visible, try finding LockAppHost.exe on the Details tab and ending the task.
    • If this resolves the black screen, then perform the following Powershell command-
Re-register all Windows Store Apps by running the following commands in a CMD window started as Administrator (Press Windows+X> select Windows Powershell(admin)):
      PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
      Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register
      "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
    • Repair damaged Windows files:
Run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool which fixes the Windows corruption error if there are any. Follow the steps:
    • Press Windows+X.
    • Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit Enter.
    • Run Sfc /scannow
System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.
You can follow the steps in the following article:
      http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_other-system/system-file-check-sfc-scan-and-repair-system-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

If you're not able to perform the above tasks, then try these:

Try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking.

  • Press and hold the shift key while clicking on Restart at the login Screen (Bottom right corner) > Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>Startup Settings>Restart >>Choose Enable Safe mode with networking.

Check Device Manager and look for Display Adapters

  • If you see 2 items under Display Adapters, disable to integrated video card (e.g. Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon HD 4200) and restart. (try vice versa if it does not work)
  • If you see 1 item under Display Adapters, rollback the driver or uninstall the display adapter in Device Manager, and enable the option to delete driver software.

Check the PC or display adapter manufacturer's site for an updated driver.

Let us know the results and write for further assistance and we'll be glad to help.

Hi,

The flickering only appears before I can put in my password. It persists for around 1 to 3 minutes.

During the flickering I cannot open the task manager because I'm still in the lock screen.

I also attempted executing "PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}" but only received errors "Cannot find path 'D:\AppXManifest.xml' because it does not exist."

So it looks like the "$($_.InstallLocation)" section is only returning D:\?

Also DISM never works, it can never connect to source, even when I specify it. I've fought with it before...

Happened again today. Here are some even viewer logs:

"Activation of app Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy!WindowsDefaultLockScreen failed with error: The app didn't start in the required time. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

"Activation of app Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy!WindowsDefaultLockScreen failed with error: The app didn't start. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

"Activation of app Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy!WindowsDefaultLockScreen failed with error: The remote procedure call failed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information." (hundreds of this one)

In between some of the hundreds of the third message mentioned are the occasional "success" message: "The app Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy!WindowsDefaultLockScreen was activated for the Windows.Launch contract successfully." but this would appear to be untrue given it's immediately followed by more of the same error...

When I get a chance I will have to run SFC from the recovery console as although it supposedly found errors they were unable to be accessed or whatever...
